It Starts at the Parks!

Author, Alice Arrieta

One of my most treasured memories of Hialeah is, without a doubt, the parks. Hialeah Parks became the backdrop of a childhood that shaped me in ways I will always cherish.

One of my most treasured memories of Hialeah is, without a doubt, the parks. From the age of six until I turned eighteen, the parks were my second home—a place where I spent countless hours growing, learning, and creating unforgettable memories. Whether it was through cultural arts programs, sports teams, or cheerleading squads, Hialeah Parks became the backdrop of a childhood that shaped me in ways I will always cherish.

There was something truly special about the camaraderie and competitive spirit that came with representing your park. For me, it was all about Goodlet Park. It’s a feeling and pride that only those who lived it can truly understand—if you know, you know.
Hialeah Parks didn’t just give me a place to play and grow; they also paved the way for my first job. Working at the parks allowed me to give back to the community and offer the next generation of kids the same enriching experiences I had. It was incredibly rewarding to see the joy and excitement on their faces, knowing I was helping to create the same kind of magic that once inspired me.

This chapter of my life also awakened a deep love for public service, particularly for the City of Hialeah. My time at the parks wasn’t just about recreation; it was about building connections, fostering community pride, and realizing the impact of giving back. Those years not only defined my childhood but also guided me toward my purpose.
